Food Journal

Privacy Policy

Effective August 26, 2026

The short version

Your meal photos and journal stay on your device. When Food Journal estimates nutrition, it sends a smaller copy of that meal photo to an AI service. There is no account, advertising, or sale of personal information.

Information kept on your device

Food Journal stores the photos you add, generated sticker cutouts, meal titles and notes, dates, and nutrition results in local app storage. This information remains there until you delete an entry or remove the app. Food Journal does not currently offer cloud sync.

Automatic nutrition estimates

After you add a meal, Food Journal creates a downsampled copy of the photo and sends it over an encrypted connection to our Cloudflare Worker. The Worker forwards the image and a short instruction to OpenRouter, which routes it to the selected AI model provider, currently xAI, to return an approximate nutrition report.

Our Worker is stateless and does not save meal images, prompts, or nutrition responses. Nutrition requests are restricted to zero-data-retention endpoints, so the AI providers process the content only to answer the request and do not retain it. The Worker records limited operational information such as success or failure, latency, model name, and token or cost totals. Cloudflare may also process standard network information under its service terms and privacy practices.

Information we do not collect

Food Journal has no user account, advertising SDK, social feed, contact upload, or location tracking. We do not sell personal information.

Your choices

You can delete any meal from the app at any time. Deleting the app removes its local journal data, subject to normal device backups managed by Apple. Automatic estimates require sending a meal image for processing; do not add a photo you do not want processed by the services described above.

Children and nutrition guidance

Food Journal is not directed to children under 13. Nutrition results are estimates, can be wrong, and are not medical advice.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Food Journal changes. The effective date above shows the latest revision. For privacy questions or requests, use the contact page.
